Berber rug

Berber rugs are handwoven rugs made by the Berber people, who lived in North Africa and the Sahara during the Stone Age. Rugs are available in traditional and modern designs, with a variety of knot patterns, colors, and textile constructions.

Berber is also known as a "loop-pile rug." This is because the fibers consist of short, thick loops that are woven back and forth, creating a characteristic, dense appearance. Some consider the term Berber outdated, but Berber is regarded as one of the oldest and most durable types of rugs.

Nomadic tribes are constantly traveling and therefore need to be able to get by with only the most essential utensils. That is why they designed the Berber rug.

Berber rugs are wool rugs that are hand-knotted with an especially high pile, allowing nomads to use them as seating or bedding. At the same time, like any classic rug, Berber rugs can be folded or rolled, making them easy to transport. Another characteristic of Berber rugs is their simple design, which usually has no decorative elements. It emphasizes the functionality and authentic natural materials used to make these rugs.

Our Berber rugs are hand-knotted in India from our own sheep's wool and subsequently undergo strict quality control at our warehouse in Hamburg.
